Primitivo Diciotto
COLOUR
Deep, opaque ruby red with garnet highlights. The dense colour reveals both richness and maturity, typical of an intense, full-bodied southern Italian red.
AROMA
Opulent and complex bouquet with aromas of ripe black cherry, plum, and blackberry jam. Layers of sweet spice, vanilla, cocoa, and tobacco emerge with aeration, accompanied by subtle notes of dried fig, licorice, and balsamic undertones. The nose is warm, inviting, and deeply concentrated.
PALATE
Full-bodied, velvety, and richly textured. The palate unfolds with luscious dark fruit flavours supported by soft, enveloping tannins and balanced acidity. Notes of black cherry, chocolate, and spice dominate, while hints of coffee and sweet oak add depth. The finish is long, warm, and persistent, leaving impressions of fruit preserves and elegant spice.
CELLARING
Superb now for its richness and intensity, yet capable of ageing gracefully for 8–10 years, developing notes of leather, prune, and dark chocolate with time.
- Appellation: Primitivo di Manduria DOC
- Producer: Varied by vintage (commonly Cantine San Marzano or Feudi di San Gregorio under the “Diciotto” label)
- Region: Puglia, Italy
- Grape Variety: 100% Primitivo
- Winemaking: Grapes are harvested from old vines with naturally low yields; long maceration for depth and colour; aged 12–18 months in French and American oak barrels
- Style: Dry, full-bodied red wine
- Alcohol: Approximately 18% ABV
Primitivo “Diciotto” is a powerful and opulent wine, ideal for robust and richly flavoured dishes. It pairs perfectly with grilled red meats, braised beef, or game such as venison and wild boar. It also complements aged cheeses, truffle dishes, and dark chocolate desserts. For a traditional pairing, enjoy it with slow-cooked lamb or orecchiette with ragù. Serve at 18 °C to emphasize its depth, warmth, and velvety texture — a true expression of Puglia’s sun-drenched terroir.
